Summary

AMD is expanding FSR Upscaling 4.1 to Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards, Ryzen AI systems and select Ryzen Z2 devices through its Adrenalin 26.10.1 driver. Xbox Series X|S support is coming soon, with timing varying by device.

AMD is expanding its machine-learning-based FSR Upscaling 4.1 technology beyond Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 graphics cards. The company says support is arriving for Radeon RX 6000 cards, Ryzen AI Max systems, laptops with Ryzen AI 9 processors and handhelds using select Ryzen Z2 processors. Xbox Series X|S support is also planned, but is not yet available.

The update is part of AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1, which AMD says is available from its website. FSR upscaling reconstructs a higher-resolution image from frames rendered at a lower resolution. That approach can reduce the rendering work required to produce a sharper-looking image; AMD describes version 4.1 as improving image quality over FSR 3.1 and boosting frames.

Which devices are gaining support

For Radeon RX 6000 cards, first released in 2020, AMD says it optimized the INT8 model originally developed for FSR Upscaling 4.1 on RX 7000 cards. INT8 refers to a model that uses 8-bit integer values in its computations. AMD says this optimization enables the upscaler to run on the older graphics-card series, and describes the visual improvement over FSR 3.1 as significant.

FSR Upscaling 4.1 is also making its debut on mobile systems using Ryzen AI Max processors, including high-performance laptops and mini-PC workstations. AMD says the feature can be used in hundreds of games on these devices.

A more efficient version of the upscaling model is intended for Ryzen AI 9 processors and handhelds with AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 Extreme or Ryzen Z2 A processors. AMD says this version is designed for the performance needs of that hardware class, including mainstream laptops and gaming handhelds. The company points to devices such as the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X1 as an example.

For Xbox Series X|S, AMD says the technology is coming soon. The announcement does not give a console release date. AMD also cautions that feature availability and release timing may differ by device, and advises handheld owners to check with their device manufacturer for official timelines.

What the expansion changes

FSR 4 launched in 2025 exclusively for Radeon RX 9000 Series GPUs, according to AMD. In July 2026, AMD brought FSR Upscaling 4.1 to RX 7000 Series cards. Extending the newer version to RX 6000 and Ryzen-based systems broadens the range of AMD hardware that can use the upscaler, including some laptops and portable gaming devices.

The practical aim is to improve image quality or rendering performance without requiring a newer graphics card in supported systems. AMD presents the update as a substantial visual step over FSR 3.1, but the announcement provides that comparison qualitatively rather than with a specific frame-rate figure. FSR frame generation is a separate feature: AMD says it also announced frame-pacing improvements, along with Vulkan support, but those are not the same as the upscaling expansion covered here.
