Summary
Anthropic says it will commit $150 million over three years to expand Claude access across more than 15 US agencies participating in the Genesis Mission. The plan includes AI tools, API credits and technical support for research projects.
Anthropic said on October 8, 2026, that it will commit $150 million over three years to the US Genesis Mission, a federal initiative to accelerate scientific and technological discovery through AI. The company says the funding will help make Claude available to researchers at more than 15 participating agencies, including NASA, the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.
The commitment was announced at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy’s Science: A New Golden Age Summit in Washington, DC. Anthropic’s plan combines access to its AI products with project support and training for researchers.
What the commitment includes
Over the next three years, Anthropic plans to provide Claude, Claude Code and API credits to several hundred Genesis Mission research projects. It also intends to work with agencies and national laboratories on administration science priorities, including fusion energy and quantum computing.
The company says it will provide training, onboarding and technical support to scientists on the projects, and help agencies joining the mission get their first projects started. The announcement does not describe separate funding amounts for individual agencies or projects; the $150 million is the total commitment over the three-year period.
Building on work with the Energy Department
Anthropic says it first announced a partnership with the US Department of Energy and the Genesis Mission the previous December. Since then, it has worked with the department to bring Claude to scientists across national laboratories. The new commitment extends that work to a broader group of agencies and research projects.
The structure matters because providing an AI system to a research organisation involves more than making a model available: projects may also need access to coding tools, API capacity and help getting researchers started. Anthropic’s announcement sets out those elements as part of its support, while leaving the specific arrangements to be developed with agencies and national laboratories.
