Apple has announced a redesigned MacBook Pro that brings touch input to the Mac for the first time, paired with a tandem OLED display Apple calls PROLED XDR. The 14- and 16-inch models use M5 Pro or M5 Max chips and are available to pre-order from October 28, 2026; Apple says deliveries and store availability begin November 6.

A brighter, color-focused display
The new display uses two self-illuminating pixel layers, the defining feature of its tandem OLED design. Apple says its display engine adjusts pixel colour and brightness in real time, while factory calibration is intended to keep colour and grayscale consistent across panels.
Apple specifies peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits for both HDR and SDR content, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz. The panel supports P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces, and Apple says it covers more than 80 per cent of Rec. 2020 for HDR video work. These features target photographers, designers and video professionals who need bright highlights, detailed shadows and colour controls in a portable display. A nano-texture option is also available to reduce reflections and glare.
Touch comes to Mac
The display’s touch sensor is built into the panel rather than placed on top of it. Apple says this reduces latency. Users can swipe, pinch, drag and tap, while creative applications can use the screen as a drawing surface or provide onscreen controls such as musical instruments. Touch is designed to work alongside the keyboard and trackpad, not replace them.
Apple says macOS translates touches into clicks for many existing apps, while updated gesture tools allow developers to create interfaces specifically for touch. The company lists support from apps including Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Adobe Lightroom and DaVinci Resolve; it says the listed apps will be available later this year. A redesigned hinge is intended to keep the display stable during touch use.
Performance, design and availability
The laptops are available with Apple’s M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, with configurations of up to 128GB of unified memory and 16TB of storage. Apple says the M5 Max can run large language models with hundreds of billions of parameters entirely on the device. That is a company-stated capability, aimed at users running demanding AI, graphics and creative workloads locally.
Apple says the 14-inch model weighs 3 pounds and the 16-inch model weighs 4 pounds. It also advertises up to 24 hours of battery life. U.S. starting prices are $2,899 for the 14-inch M5 Pro model and $3,399 for the 16-inch M5 Pro; M5 Max versions start at $4,499 and $4,799, respectively. Apple says pre-orders open in 30 countries and regions, including the U.S., on October 28, with availability beginning November 6, 2026.
