Apple has started rolling out iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27 and tvOS 27, introducing Siri AI as a beta and adding new Apple Intelligence features across its devices. The updates were announced on September 14, 2026.

Siri AI is initially rolling out in English. Apple says support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish is planned for October. The release also includes new parental controls, changes to everyday apps and company-reported performance improvements.

Siri AI adds context, screen awareness and actions

Apple describes Siri AI as a new version of its assistant powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence. It is integrated across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro, with support for personal context, broader web-based knowledge, awareness of onscreen content and additional actions across system apps.

Personal context allows Siri AI to work with information in messages, emails, photos and other material to help locate something relevant to a request. It can also answer questions about what is displayed on a device’s screen or search the web for current information.

On iPhone, Siri mode is integrated into the Camera app. Apple says users can ask about objects or situations in front of the camera and take actions such as splitting a bill and paying friends with Apple Cash, or adding a custom pass to Wallet. Apple Cash support for these functions is limited to the United States on eligible iPhone and iPad devices.

Visual Intelligence extends similar interactions to iPhone, iPad and Mac screens. On Apple Vision Pro, users can look at their surroundings and ask Siri to search, answer questions or take an action. A separate Siri app uses iCloud to privately sync conversational history, allowing a conversation to continue across supported Apple devices. Write with Siri can generate a draft from a description or help refine existing writing.

Apple Intelligence expands into everyday apps

The software updates add AI-assisted functions to several Apple apps. Photos gains Spatial Reframing, Extend and an upgraded Clean Up tool. Image Playground can create images in styles including photorealistic imagery, while image metadata and planned support for the SynthID standard are intended to help identify images generated or edited with AI. Apple says SynthID will arrive in a later software update this year and will cover most edited images depending on the edits applied.

Safari can automatically organise tabs into topics, notify users about website changes such as restocks or price drops, and create custom extensions from a description. Call Context can surface information such as a confirmation code or reservation number during a call to a business. In Apple Maps, an enhanced Flyover experience combines aerial imagery with AI to provide more detailed visuals.

Child safety and platform improvements

Apple has added a new setup flow for child accounts so parents can apply age-based safeguards and select which apps are available from the beginning. Ask to Browse can require approval before a child opens a new website in Safari. Parents can also approve new contacts, while Communication Safety now detects and intervenes when gore or violent content appears in shared images or videos.

The redesigned Screen Time interface shows average device usage and the most-used apps at a glance. It also supports daily time allowances across Entertainment, Games and Social Media, plus schedules that control app access at different times of day. Apple says the allowance guidance was developed with leading clinical and child-development experts.

Across the platforms, Apple reports that apps on iPhone and iPad launch up to 30 percent faster, photos load up to 70 percent faster after capture and AirDrop transfers are up to 80 percent faster. On iPad, browsing files and transferring them to an external USB drive is reported to be up to five times faster. Apple Vision Pro starts and connects to Wi-Fi up to three times faster.

These figures come from Apple tests using prerelease versions of the software and specified devices, libraries and transfer conditions. Results can vary with configuration, settings, content, usage and software versions.

Other changes include full-resolution iCloud Shared Albums contributions from Android and Windows users, perimenopause and menopause support in Cycle Tracking, custom EQ for AirPods, new Smart Stack suggestions on Apple Watch, spatial scenes from panoramas on Vision Pro, and high-resolution lossless audio support for Apple Music on Apple TV. Apple says Cycle Tracking should not be used for birth control or to diagnose a health condition.

Availability and supported devices

Apple Intelligence and Siri AI are available on supported products set to a supported language. Eligible hardware includes iPhone Duo, iPhone Air, iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max; iPad mini with A17 Pro and iPad models with M1 or later; MacBook Neo with A18 Pro and Macs with M1 or later; Apple Vision Pro; and Apple Watch Series 9 or later, Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later and Apple Watch SE 3 when paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone.

Apple lists Apple Intelligence support for 16 languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, simplified Chinese and traditional Chinese. Individual features can vary by language and region. In the European Union, Siri AI is initially available on Mac and Apple Vision Pro, while iOS, iPadOS and watchOS access is initially excluded. Apple says Siri AI and other new Apple Intelligence features are not available in China while it works through regulatory requirements.

Some Apple Intelligence functions that depend on server-side models have daily usage limits. Apple says the limits can vary according to the feature, request complexity, system demand and other factors, and that expanded access will be offered for a fee in the future.
