The company’s product page describes the Duo as having the largest display yet on an iPhone when open, and says its inner screen is 50 per cent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max’s. The outer display has more than 90 per cent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro, according to Apple.
Two screens, with software built around the fold
The inner display is a Super Retina XDR panel. Apple says it uses more than 10 ultra-thin layers and a nano-texture finish to reduce glare; the company lists a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. An under-display FaceTime camera is hidden when not in use.
Apple has designed iOS 27 features for the two-screen format and different ways of positioning the phone. In landscape orientation, users can run two apps side by side, including dragging a photo from Photos into Mail. The wider display also supports watching a video while using another app. The phone can be set down at an angle for video calls or viewing, and StandBy can show a clock, photos, widgets and other information.
The frame and hinge cover use Grade 5 titanium. Apple lists a scratch-resistant coating for the inner display, Ceramic Shield on the front and back, and IP68 water and dust resistance.
Cameras and performance
The rear camera system includes 48-megapixel Fusion Main and Fusion Ultra Wide cameras. Apple says the phone can record video at up to 4K and 120 frames per second. The front camera is a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera; a separate under-display camera is listed for FaceTime.
New camera features include Smart Take, which Apple says can detect when everyone is ready before taking a group photo, and Duo Preview, which shows a live image on the outer screen for the person being photographed. The company also lists Kid Cue animations and Duo FaceTime, which lets nearby friends join a call using that display.
The phone runs on Apple’s A20 Pro chip, which the company describes as vapor-cooled, and uses a dual-battery system. Apple calls the battery life all-day power. Its page also lists Apple Intelligence photo-editing tools, including Spatial Reframing, Extend and an enhanced Clean Up tool. Siri AI is rolling out in English, according to Apple.
