What Siri AI adds
Siri AI can use information from a user’s messages, emails and photos to help complete a request. Apple gives the example of finding a family member’s suggestion in Messages, retrieving a recipe from an earlier email and adding its ingredients to a grocery list in Reminders.
The assistant can also act on onscreen content. While a sports team’s website is open, a user can ask Siri to find upcoming home games and add them to the calendar. On iPhone, Siri can be invoked with the side button or by swiping down from the Dynamic Island. On iPad and Mac, it is integrated into Spotlight and systemwide context menus. On Apple Vision Pro, Siri appears as a 3D visualisation that can be placed in the user’s surroundings.
A dedicated Siri app stores conversational history with iCloud syncing across Apple devices, allowing a conversation started on iPhone to continue on a Mac, iPad, Apple Watch or Apple Vision Pro. Apple also adds integrated Writing Tools, Visual Intelligence across iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro, and the ability to draft or revise text virtually anywhere users type.
Apple Intelligence extends beyond Siri. New features include photo editing tools such as Spatial Reframing and Extend, photorealistic image creation in Image Playground, tab organisation and website-change notifications in Safari, natural-language shortcut creation, and additional actions in Mail, Messages, Calendar and Home.
Compatible devices and language requirements
Apple says Apple Intelligence in the 2027 operating systems is available on:
- iPhone 16 models or later, plus iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max;
- iPad mini with A17 Pro and iPad models with M1 or later;
- MacBook Neo with A18 Pro and Mac models with M1 or later;
- Apple Vision Pro;
- Apple Watch Series 9 or later, Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, and Apple Watch SE 3 when paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone nearby.
Siri AI requires one of these Apple Intelligence-enabled devices running the relevant operating system, with Siri settings and the device language set to a supported language. Apple lists Chinese (simplified and traditional), Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Vietnamese for Apple Intelligence.
The initial Siri AI beta is in English. Apple says French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish support is coming next month. Some features may vary by region or language, and Siri AI is not available to users under 13.
A separate group of devices supports Apple’s most advanced on-device model, AFM Core Advanced, along with expressive Siri voices and more advanced dictation. Apple lists iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPad models with M4 or later and at least 12GB of unified memory, and Mac models with M3 or later and at least 12GB of unified memory. The model and expressive voices are also available on Apple Vision Pro with M5.
Rollout limits and later features
Siri AI is available initially in beta, so the first release is still an early version of the new assistant. Apple says server-side Apple Intelligence features, including Siri AI, intelligent photo editing, Image Playground and some Shortcuts models, are subject to daily usage limits. Those limits can vary with the feature, request complexity, system demand and other factors; Apple says expanded access will be offered for a fee in the future.
Siri AI will not initially be available in the European Union on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS, including features that depend on it. Apple also says Siri AI and other new Apple Intelligence features will not be available in China while it works through regulatory requirements.
Apple’s new Audio Intelligence features for Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 are planned for beta later in 2026 rather than the initial Siri AI release. They include Sound Recognition, Live Rewind, Siri Recap and faster Shazam. The redesigned Health app and its Apple Intelligence-powered guidance are also planned for later this year.
The new architecture combines on-device processing with Private Cloud Compute. Apple says the latest Apple Foundation Models were built in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models, while system components such as the Spotlight index and App Toolbox operate entirely on device. Apple describes Private Cloud Compute as a way to process requests on servers without storing or making personal data accessible to Apple.
