Apple has begun rolling out Siri AI as part of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27 and tvOS 27. Announced on September 14, 2026, the software release makes Siri more deeply connected to a user’s information, screen content and installed apps, while adding new Apple Intelligence features and redesigned parental controls.
Siri AI is initially available as a beta in English. Apple says French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish support is scheduled to arrive in October.
Siri AI adds personal context and system actions
Apple describes Siri AI as a new version of its assistant powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence. It can use context from messages, emails, photos and other information to help locate relevant details. It can also answer questions about content visible on the screen or retrieve up-to-date information from the web.
The assistant is designed to act across Apple’s platforms rather than operate only as a question-and-answer tool. In the iPhone Camera app, a new Siri mode can interpret what is in front of the camera and help users take actions. Apple gives the example of splitting a bill and paying friends through Apple Cash, or creating a custom pass for Wallet. The Apple Cash example is available only in the United States on eligible iPhone and iPad devices.
Visual Intelligence extends similar functions to iPhone, iPad and Mac screens. Users can ask Siri about the material they are viewing, while Apple Vision Pro users can look at their surroundings and ask questions or take actions based on what they see.
A new Write with Siri feature can generate a draft from a description or help refine existing writing. Apple is also introducing a dedicated Siri app that uses iCloud to privately sync conversation history across a user’s Apple devices, allowing a conversation to continue between iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro.
Apple Intelligence moves into everyday apps
The update adds AI-assisted functions to several Apple apps. Photos gains Spatial Reframing, Extend and an upgraded Clean Up tool. Image Playground can create images in a range of styles, including photorealistic images. Apple says image metadata and future support for the SynthID standard will help identify images generated or edited with AI; SynthID is scheduled to arrive in a software update later in 2026 and will cover most edited images depending on the edits applied.
In Safari, Apple Intelligence can group tabs by topic, notify users when a website changes—for example, when a product is restocked or its price drops—and create custom extensions from a description. Call Context can surface information such as a confirmation code or reservation number during a call to a business.
Apple is also adding new controls for children and families. A revised child-account setup process lets parents choose which apps are available from the start and add more later. Ask to Browse can require approval before a child opens a new website in Safari. Parents can approve contacts individually, while Communication Safety now detects and intervenes when gore or violent content appears in shared images or videos.
The redesigned Screen Time interface shows average device use and the most-used apps. It adds daily time allowances for Entertainment, Games and Social Media, as well as schedules controlling which apps are accessible at different times of day.
Rollout, compatibility and other platform changes
Apple says the new software starts rolling out across its platforms today. Apple Intelligence and Siri AI require supported hardware and a supported language. Eligible products listed by Apple include iPhone Duo, iPhone Air, iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max; iPad mini with A17 Pro and iPad models with M1 or later; MacBook Neo with A18 Pro and Macs with M1 or later; Apple Vision Pro; and Apple Watch Series 9 or later, Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later and Apple Watch SE 3 when paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone.
Siri AI will be available on Mac and Apple Vision Pro in the European Union when set to a supported language, but will not initially be available through iOS, iPadOS or watchOS there. Apple says Siri AI and the other new Apple Intelligence features will not be available in China while it works through regulatory requirements.
The company also reports performance improvements. In its tests, apps launched up to 30 percent faster on iPhone and iPad, photos loaded up to 70 percent faster after capture, and AirDrop transfers were up to 80 percent faster. On iPad, browsing files and transferring them to an external USB drive was up to five times faster. Apple conducted these comparisons using specified devices, existing software and prerelease versions of the new systems.
Certain Apple Intelligence features that rely on server-side models, including Siri AI, intelligent photo editing, Image Playground and some Shortcuts models, have daily usage limits. Apple says those limits can vary with the feature, request complexity, system demand and other factors, and that expanded access will be offered for a fee in the future.
