Summary
Apple announced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by its M6 chip, with a 12-core CPU and GPU, Wi-Fi 7 and up to 24 hours of battery life. Pre-orders begin October 28 in 35 countries and regions, with availability starting November 6.
Apple announced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro with its M6 chip on October 27, 2026. The laptop has a 12-core CPU, a 12-core GPU with Neural Accelerators in each core, and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says the chip improves graphics and on-device AI performance over M5, while the computer delivers up to 24 hours of battery life.
M6 brings more GPU and AI capacity
Apple says the M6’s 12-core GPU delivers up to 30 percent faster graphics performance and up to 25 percent faster on-device AI workloads than M5. The Neural Engine, which is designed to accelerate machine-learning tasks, is rated by Apple at up to 1.9 times the performance of the M5 Neural Engine. The company also says that adding Neural Accelerators to the GPU cores helps with workloads such as image generation and AI image upscaling.
The design combines several kinds of processing hardware: the CPU handles general computing tasks, the GPU can work on many graphics or compute operations in parallel, and the Neural Engine is geared towards machine-learning workloads. Apple says this arrangement can support running large language models locally on the Mac, alongside AI features in its software.
Apple reports task-specific gains as well. For example, it says the new laptop can process LLM prompts up to 1.3 times faster than the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5, and compile Xcode projects up to 1.3 times faster. Compared with the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1, Apple reports up to 13 times faster time to first token for LLM prompt processing and up to 2.5 times faster Xcode project builds. These are company-reported results from selected benchmarks, not a guarantee that every app or workload will see the same gains.
The M6 MacBook Pro starts with 16GB of unified memory, configurable up to 32GB, and memory bandwidth of up to 170GB/s. Apple says battery life reaches up to 24 hours, with the same performance whether the computer is plugged in or running on battery. Actual battery life varies by use and configuration.
Display, connectivity and availability
The 14-inch model retains a Liquid Retina XDR display, with peak HDR brightness of up to 1,600 nits and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. A nano-texture display option is available. The laptop adds Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, supports up to two external displays, and includes three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, MagSafe 3, an SDXC card slot and a headphone jack.
Apple says pre-orders open October 28 on its website and in the Apple Store app across 35 countries and regions, including the United States. The laptop is due to begin arriving to customers and appear in Apple Store locations and authorised resellers on November 6. The starting price is $1,999 in the United States, or $1,899 with education savings. Apple announced the laptop in space black and silver.
