Summary
BMW has announced the iX3 M60 xDrive, a dual-motor electric SUV rated at 450 kW (612 hp) and up to 754 km of provisional WLTP range. Orders are due to open at the end of January 2027, with production scheduled to begin in spring 2027.
BMW has announced the iX3 M60 xDrive, a new high-performance version of its fully electric SUV and the most powerful iX3 variant to date. Its two electric motors produce a combined 450 kW (612 hp), BMW says, and the company lists a maximum WLTP range of 754 km. The performance, range and consumption figures are provisional; orders are scheduled to open at the end of January 2027.
Two motors, with range and charging figures still provisional
The iX3 M60 xDrive has one electric motor on each axle, providing all-wheel drive. BMW gives peak torque as 875 Nm and says the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 240 km/h. A revised electrically excited synchronous motor (EESM) at the rear is among the changes behind the higher output, according to the company.
The high-voltage battery has a usable energy content of 108.7 kWh. BMW lists electric consumption of 20.5–17.6 kWh/100 km and a maximum range of 754 km (468 miles) in the WLTP cycle. These are provisional figures because binding WLTP values are not yet available. The eventual result for an individual vehicle can also vary with factors including equipment, tyres, driving conditions and weather.
BMW specifies a maximum DC charging rate of 400 kW. At an 800V fast-charging station, the company estimates that ten minutes of charging can add up to 340 km of WLTP range, assuming the charging infrastructure supplies the maximum power. The car also supports AC charging at up to 22 kW.
Chassis and driver-assistance features
The M60 xDrive comes with adaptive M suspension, variable-ratio sport steering and an electronically controlled M Sport differential at the rear. BMW says the suspension adjusts its damping to driving conditions, while the differential is intended to improve traction and handling. Drivers can select M Sport and M Sport Plus modes to change the responses of the drive system, chassis and steering.
BMW also describes a control system called Heart of Joy, working with BMW M Dynamic Performance Control to coordinate functions including the drive system, braking, steering, charging and energy recuperation. BMW says the computer works ten times faster than previous systems. In everyday driving, the car can decelerate largely through recuperative braking, which uses the motors to recover energy; conventional brakes remain available for emergency braking and sporty driving.
The iX3 M60 xDrive includes SAE Level 2 driver-assistance systems. BMW says its Motorway Assistant permits hands-free driving on motorways at speeds up to 130 km/h. This is a driver-assistance feature, not a change to the vehicle's stated SAE Level 2 classification.
Production and ordering
Production is scheduled to start at BMW Group Plant Debrecen in Hungary in spring 2027. BMW says customers will be able to place orders from the end of January 2027. The announcement gives no market-specific pricing or launch schedule.
