Mercedes-Benz says its electric GLC has been named “German Premium Car of the Year 2027”. The award was presented at the National Automobile Museum – The Loh Collection, according to the company’s announcement dated 22 September 2026. The jury recognised the vehicle’s overall concept and its balanced, comfortable driving character.

How the award is decided

The German Car of the Year Awards jury includes German automotive journalists, specialist content creators and international jurors. Mercedes-Benz says a group of guest jurors has also joined the panel since 2026.

The jury tests and evaluates new vehicles on the European market. It considers major new models within their categories and also compares them directly across categories to select its cars of the year. The electric GLC’s award is therefore a jury distinction based on that evaluation process; the company’s announcement describes the jury’s rationale in qualitative terms rather than reporting a score.

Features of the electric GLC

Mercedes-Benz lists an optional AIRMATIC air suspension and rear-axle steering with a steering angle of 4.5 degrees. The company also cites a 128-litre front storage compartment, or frunk, and a maximum towing capacity of 2.4 tonnes as features intended to support everyday use and travel.

Inside, the optional MBUX Hyperscreen measures 99.3 centimetres, which Mercedes-Benz describes as its largest display. It runs with the Mercedes-Benz Operating System, or MB.OS, which connects infotainment, comfort functions, charging and driver assistance. The company says the system supports over-the-air updates through the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud.

Mercedes-Benz groups its driver-assistance systems under MB.DRIVE. The announcement lists DISTRONIC distance assistance and a parking assistant as standard features. Optional packages extend the functions to assisted driving at SAE Level 2 and a 360-degree view for parking. SAE Level 2 describes driver assistance, not a vehicle that can drive itself without a supervising driver.

The award gives the electric GLC recognition from a jury assessing new vehicles in the European market. The accompanying specifications point to the areas Mercedes-Benz highlights alongside the distinction: comfort, cabin technology, parking assistance and practical features such as luggage space and towing capacity.
