Google has announced a planned €13 billion investment in Finland over the next two years, combining digital infrastructure and data-centre expansion with electricity projects, battery storage, workforce training and local-community programmes.

Google has operated a data centre in Hamina, Finland, for 15 years. The facility was converted from a former paper mill. Google says its Hamina operations have included seawater-based cooling and offsite distribution of recovered heat to local homes and businesses.
The new announcement extends beyond the existing site. Google describes the €13 billion package as covering Finnish digital infrastructure, clean-energy projects and economic partnerships. It calls the commitment its largest single investment in Europe, although that description is a company claim.
The company says its Hamina presence supported an ecosystem of more than 600 Finnish suppliers between 2023 and 2025. Those suppliers worked across areas including construction, operations and network fibre.

Google’s existing Hamina cooling and heat-recovery arrangements illustrate another part of data-centre infrastructure. Jobs, suppliers and local programmes
Google says the facilities will support thousands of permanent jobs once fully operational, including engineering, security and catering roles. The company has not provided a detailed breakdown of these positions or a timetable for reaching that employment level.
The company has also announced €31 million in local-community investment over four years in Hamina, Kajaani, Muhos and Vaala. The programme includes AI upskilling for more than 4,400 workers and training opportunities for 100 Finnish students.
Other announced projects include native-forest and wetland regeneration near Google’s sites, as well as recreational trails, public saunas and fishing piers.
