Summary

Google says Google Vids users can now generate 1080p video scenes for free with Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash. New controls let users set clip durations, extend scenes and upscale existing AI clips.

Google says Google Vids now lets anyone with a Google or Google Workspace account generate AI video scenes at no cost using its Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash model. Announced on September 23, 2026, the update adds controls for extending scenes, setting clip durations and creating or upscaling video in 1080p HD.

The features are available in Google Vids on desktop. Users can visit vids.new and choose “Create AI videos” to start. Google also describes ready-made templates for projects such as product promotions and community announcements.

More control over generated scenes

The new controls are aimed at making generated clips fit a larger video rather than leaving users with a fixed-length result. Google says users can choose an exact duration for a clip, which can help align it with a story or voiceover. They can also extend a scene while maintaining visual context, lighting, character appearance and the surrounding environment, according to the company.

Users can generate new scenes in 1080p HD or upscale existing AI clips to fit more consistently into a video timeline. 1080p refers to a high-definition frame resolution of 1,920 by 1,080 pixels. Google’s announcement describes these options but does not specify clip-length limits or the technical process used to extend or upscale footage.

Watermarks and planned voiceovers

Google says every video clip generated with Omni 1.1 in Vids has an imperceptible SynthID digital watermark embedded in its frames. The company says this watermark allows viewers to verify that content was generated with AI. The feature is intended to provide provenance information alongside the ability to create and edit scenes.

Google also says text-to-speech is coming to Vids through Gemini 3.8 Flash-Lite. The planned feature will turn scripts into voiceovers in more than 100 languages; Google has not provided a specific release date in the announcement.

Basic AI video generation is included at no cost for Google and Google Workspace account holders. Google says personal users can explore its Google AI plans for more access, while Workspace Business and Enterprise plans include expanded generation pools and centralised administrator controls.
