Hyundai Motor Group used its CES 2026 exhibition to present a portfolio of robotics systems spanning humanoid robots, quadruped inspection machines, mobility platforms, autonomous driving, industrial wearables and factory logistics. The exhibition, held on 7 January 2026, included Boston Dynamics’ Atlas and Spot, Hyundai Motor Group Robotics LAB’s MobED platform, an IONIQ 5 Robotaxi and systems intended for charging, parking, assembly and material handling.
The company presented the exhibition under the theme “Partnering Human Progress” and organised it into six zones covering human–robot collaboration, robot-to-robot collaboration and the integration of robots with mobility systems. The demonstrations show how Hyundai says these technologies could fit into manufacturing and logistics operations, but the supplied evidence is primarily a manufacturer account rather than independent performance validation.

Humanoid and mobile robots
The Tech Lab featured Boston Dynamics’ Atlas humanoid robot and Spot quadruped robot. Hyundai distinguished between an Atlas prototype and an Atlas product model.
Hyundai said the Atlas prototype was first unveiled in 2024 and completed pilot testing at Hyundai Motor Group’s Meta Plant America in October 2025. In those tests, the robot repeatedly picked up automotive parts and aligned them in another rack, according to the company.
The Atlas product model was specified with 56 degrees of freedom, an integrated camera providing 360-degree vision, a maximum payload capacity of 50 kg, water- and dust-resistance, and autonomous battery swapping. Degrees of freedom describe independently controllable axes of movement. A higher number can allow more complex motion, but it does not by itself demonstrate that a robot can perform useful tasks reliably in real production conditions.
Hyundai said it plans to mass-produce Atlas and deploy it across global manufacturing sites, beginning with Hyundai Motor Group’s Meta Plant America (HMGMA). The stated approach is to validate the robot process by process before expanding deployment. The exhibition source does not provide a mass-production start date, production volume or detailed deployment schedule.
Spot was presented as a system for site monitoring and safety inspection, including work in areas that may be difficult for people to access. Hyundai said Spot can operate autonomously or manually, use Enterprise Asset Management tools, carry an arm for handling objects and be managed remotely as part of a multi-unit fleet through Boston Dynamics’ Orbit AI software.
The other major mobile platform was MobED, a mobility robot with four independently controlled wheels. Its Drive-and-Lift, or DnL, mechanism is intended to help the platform remain stable on uneven terrain. Hyundai described Basic and Pro versions: Basic is intended for research and development, while Pro adds autonomous navigation.
The CES demonstrations included several MobED-based concepts:
- MobED Pick & Place, for handling tasks;
- MobED Golf;
- MobED Delivery; and
- MobED Urban Hopper, a concept model.
These demonstrations illustrate different possible uses for a common mobility platform. They do not, by themselves, establish commercial availability or performance across those applications.
Autonomous mobility and industrial assistance
Hyundai’s Effortless Driving Zone included an IONIQ 5 Robotaxi with a stated Level 4 autonomous-driving system. Level 4 generally refers to automated driving within a defined operational design domain, meaning a specified set of conditions and locations in which the system is responsible for driving without requiring continuous human control.
Hyundai described the Robotaxi as capable of fully driverless operation within designated areas. The exhibition source does not define those areas, describe the system’s safety-validation status or provide regulatory information. It also does not establish that the vehicle is approved for general public deployment.
The same zone included an Automatic Charging Robot and a Parking Robot. Hyundai claimed that the Parking Robot can improve parking efficiency by up to 27% in office buildings. The source does not state the baseline, test conditions, sample size or measurement method behind that figure, so the number should be treated as a company claim rather than an independently established result.
The Collaborative Assembly section focused on systems intended to assist people and automate inspection. Hyundai specified that the X-ble Shoulder industrial wearable weighs 1.9 kg, provides an arm range of 0–180 degrees and can reduce shoulder-joint loads by up to 60% during overhead tasks.
The reduction figure describes a physical-load outcome claimed by the company; the supplied source does not provide the testing protocol, population, comparator or duration. It therefore cannot establish how the result would translate across workers, tasks or production environments.
Hyundai also presented Spot AI Keeper, which it described as detecting and reporting assembly defects. The company said the system was being used at Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore and HMGMA.
A collaborative robot, or cobot, is designed to work near people, but safe deployment still depends on engineering controls, risk assessment and operating constraints. The exhibition account does not provide detailed worker-safety assessments, failure modes or human-oversight requirements for the systems shown.
Robots working across factory and logistics tasks
The Streamlined Logistics zone demonstrated Stretch, collaborative robots and autonomous mobile robots working together on unloading, loading and transport tasks. The demonstration is significant because it presented the robots as parts of a coordinated workflow rather than as isolated machines.
Hyundai described the autonomous mobile robot as using LiDAR, 3D depth cameras and simultaneous localisation and mapping, or SLAM, to perceive obstacles and select routes. LiDAR measures distance by timing reflected light. Depth cameras provide distance information across a field of view. SLAM combines environmental observations with position estimation to construct or update a map while the robot moves.
Hyundai said its autonomous logistics robot technology is being used at HMGMA. However, the source does not provide throughput measurements, error rates, intervention rates or comparisons with conventional logistics operations.
The broader exhibition theme was therefore an integrated one: Atlas for potential manufacturing tasks, Spot for inspection and monitoring, MobED for adaptable mobility, autonomous systems for driving and charging, wearables for physical assistance, and multiple robot types for logistics. The company’s presentation suggests a strategy of combining specialised machines across industrial processes.
What the exhibition establishes—and what it does not
The CES presentation establishes that Hyundai Motor Group displayed and demonstrated the named systems, and that the company has described specific plans and capabilities for them. It also shows the range of environments Hyundai is targeting, from assembly and inspection to parking, charging and internal logistics.
In particular, it does not validate the Atlas payload or environmental resistance, the Spot capabilities, the X-ble Shoulder load reduction, the Parking Robot’s reported 27% efficiency improvement or the IONIQ 5 Robotaxi’s Level 4 operation.
