Mahindra launched the Thar OG on 22 September 2026, positioning it as the successor to the three-door Thar unveiled in 2020. The new SUV starts at ₹10.32 lakh ex-showroom, with deliveries scheduled to begin on 11 October 2026. Mahindra says the update combines changes to the vehicle’s platform, suspension and steering with new off-road features, styling and safety equipment.
Platform, suspension and off-road features
The Thar OG is built on Mahindra’s M_Glyde 4G platform, which the company says has higher stiffness for on-road and off-road driving. At the rear, a PENTALINK suspension with Watts Link is intended to improve cornering stability and control. DAVINCI Damping uses Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD), which Mahindra says contributes to a more comfortable ride. The SUV also gets electric power steering and enhanced noise, vibration and harshness damping, or NVH damping, for the cabin.
For off-road driving, the four-wheel-drive versions have an Electronic Locking Differential (ELD) and selectable Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes. A locking differential can help maintain traction when one wheel has less grip by limiting how freely the paired wheels rotate at different speeds. Mahindra says the terrain modes adjust vehicle performance for the selected surface. The company also lists terrain assistance for rear-wheel-drive versions with the 2.2-litre mHawk and 2.0-litre mStallion engines.
The engine line-up includes a 119 kW, 330 Nm G20 TGDi mStallion petrol engine and a 111.9 kW, 330 Nm D22 mHawk diesel. The D117 CRDe diesel produces 87.2 kW and 300 Nm; Mahindra says its power and torque figures are unchanged.
Design, safety and prices
Exterior changes include a new grille, circular LED headlamps, C-shaped daytime running lights, LED fog lamps and taillamps, revised bumpers and new R19 alloy wheels. The cabin gains Truffle Brown leatherette seats and a second-row armrest with a cupholder. Two new paint colours, Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue, join six existing colours.
Equipment varies by trim. Mahindra’s feature list gives the AXT dual airbags, while the ZXT adds four HPTS (Head Pelvis Thorax Shoulder) airbags for front and rear passengers, bringing that variant’s total to six. The ZXT also adds front and rear disc brakes, a tyre-pressure monitoring system and front parking sensors. The company lists an all-disc-brake setup and six airbags among the model’s safety features, so buyers should check the equipment for the specific variant.
The introductory ex-showroom price range runs from ₹10.32 lakh for the AXT to ₹18.99 lakh for the ZXT. The introductory prices apply to deliveries made up to 30 November 2026. The release lists manual and automatic transmissions, rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations, with availability depending on the engine and trim.
