MediaTek has introduced the Dimensity CX C10 Max, the first system-on-chip (SoC) in its new Dimensity Compute Experiences family. Announced on Sept. 21, 2026, the chip is intended for an upcoming premium, ultra-portable Googlebook device.

The company describes the C10 Max as the flagship of the new range. It is built using TSMC’s 3nm process and combines an octa-core CPU, an 11-core GPU and MediaTek’s eighth-generation neural processing unit (NPU). MediaTek says the platform is designed to support thin, light and fanless laptops while delivering all-day battery life.

A laptop platform designed around local AI

The C10 Max includes MediaTek’s NPU 890, which the company rates at up to 55 trillion operations per second (TOPS). An NPU is specialised hardware for neural-network workloads, such as image processing, speech functions and generative-AI features. Its purpose is to handle these tasks more efficiently than relying only on general-purpose CPU cores.

MediaTek says the NPU 890 is designed to support Gemini Intelligence features in upcoming Googlebook devices. The company also says the hardware can enable faster responses and provide additional privacy benefits by supporting AI processing at the edge, closer to the device rather than requiring every operation to be handled remotely.

The platform is also described as supporting accelerated agentic AI, a term generally used for software that can carry out multi-step tasks with limited user intervention. In practical use, the experience will depend on how Google and device manufacturers implement these capabilities in software.

The C10 Max’s All Big Core design places the emphasis on high-performance CPU processing rather than a conventional mix of performance and efficiency cores. Combined with the 11-core GPU, this is intended to support multitasking, productivity, entertainment and AI-assisted functions in a compact computer.

Camera and wireless features

MediaTek has integrated its Imagiq 1090 image signal processor into the chip. The ISP supports camera sensors of up to 32 megapixels and is designed to provide HDR video capture, smoother video zoom, cinematic video effects and sustained focus. These features are aimed at video calls, livestreaming and content creation.

For wireless connectivity, the platform supports Wi-Fi 7 with speeds of up to 7.3Gbps. That peak figure is a platform capability; actual throughput will depend on the network, access point, channel conditions and the laptop’s antenna design. The chip also includes dual-engine Bluetooth 6.0 support for wireless peripherals and audio devices.

The announcement presents the Dimensity CX C10 Max as a foundation for a new class of AI-focused, ultra-portable laptops rather than as a product already available to consumers. MediaTek has identified the Googlebook device as upcoming, but the release provides no launch date, price or battery-duration figure. Practical performance and battery life will depend on the final laptop’s design, software and workload.
