Summary

Samsung India and the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises have signed a three-year MoU to train 1,600 people in electronics repair, maintenance and installation in the first year. Training is planned at 15 MSME Technology Centres and includes practical work with Samsung products and tools.

Samsung India and the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) have signed a three-year memorandum of understanding to provide electronics repair, maintenance and installation training to 1,600 people in the first year. The programme is to run through 15 MSME Technology Centres across India.

The training covers mobile phones, tablets and smartwatches, televisions, air conditioners, washing machines and Professional Display products. Samsung says it will equip classrooms and laboratories with its products and tools for practical instruction.

Training combines classroom and workplace experience

The programme includes Samsung’s Guru Shiksha, a training-of-trainers initiative intended to strengthen instructors’ technical capabilities at participating centres. Scholarships will be available to women and specially-abled trainees, while batch toppers can receive merit-based rewards.

Samsung will also facilitate on-the-job training through its service network, with stipend support of INR 12,000 per month for three months. The company describes this as a route to workplace exposure and potential careers in electronics servicing; the announcement does not present it as guaranteed job placement.

Repair training across this range of devices requires practical familiarity with different product types and servicing tasks. Providing equipment in classrooms and laboratories is intended to connect instruction with hands-on work, while the workplace component adds experience in a service setting.

Part of a longer-running skills programme

The initiative, called DOST Service, is Samsung India’s corporate social responsibility programme for vocational training in electronics repair, maintenance and installation. Samsung says it launched the programme in 2014.

Between 2015 and 2023, 5,391 students were trained at 12 MSME Technology Centres, according to the company. Its separate programme with government-run Industrial Training Institutes trained 10,612 students across 22 institutions in 16 states.

Samsung says planned expansion includes locations in Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, along with clusters in other regions. The announcement sets the first-year target for the new agreement at 1,600 trainees.
