Summary

Samsung says the Galaxy Z Fold8 weighs 201g and uses a two-layer titanium support structure beneath its OLED display. The company also lists 5.5-inch and 7.6-inch displays, a 4,800mAh battery and Android 17 with One UI 9.

Samsung has published engineering details and specifications for the Galaxy Z Fold8, describing a 201g foldable phone that measures 4.5mm thick when open and 9.7mm when folded. Samsung calls it the lightest foldable made to date and compares its weight with the 253g Galaxy Z Fold5. The difference between those listed weights is 52g.

The company says it reassessed about 270 components and more than 180 auxiliary parts while working to reduce the device’s weight and thickness. Its most detailed change is a two-layer titanium support structure beneath the OLED display.

A revised support stack beneath the folding display

Samsung says the Fold8’s Flex Titanium system combines an ultra-thin titanium-alloy film beneath the OLED panel with a titanium plate underneath that. The company describes the film as providing strength and flexibility close to the panel, while the plate supplies structural support and impact absorption. Together, the layers are intended to balance a flexible screen with support behind it.

Samsung says the revised arrangement makes the display module 10% thinner, improves surface flatness and reduces the visibility of the crease. The announcement does not give a comparison baseline for the 10% figure. Samsung first introduced its Flex Titanium display support plate with the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition in 2024; the Fold8 uses the two-layer version.

A lighter, thinner body can make a large-screen foldable easier to carry, while the support structure addresses the engineering challenge of backing a screen that must bend repeatedly. Samsung also lists an Advanced Armor Aluminum frame, a Flex Titanium display backplate, an Easy Open structure and a hinge made from more than 100 components. The company says the phone underwent over 100 reliability tests and lists IP48 dust- and water-resistance.

Displays, cameras and battery

The Fold8 has a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch main display, each with peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits, according to Samsung. The company also says both screens have Vision Booster for visibility in bright sunlight.

Samsung lists 50MP wide and 50MP ultra-wide cameras, with its ProVisual Engine for AI-assisted capture and editing. Dual Preview and Dual Recording can show or record views from the front and rear cameras at the same time. Photo Assist uses the unfolded screen to place original and edited images side by side.

The listed battery capacity is 4,800mAh, with 45W fast charging. Samsung says the battery uses a silicon-carbon anode to improve energy density, higher-performance graphite to help dissipate heat, and an Independent Charging Architecture to manage power and reduce heat and stress on the cells.

The phone runs Android 17 with One UI 9, according to the announcement. Samsung lists Multi Window for running up to three apps simultaneously, alongside Gemini Notebook and Now Nudge features.
