Summary

Samsung has announced the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and Tab S12+, powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 and running Android 17 with One UI 9. The tablets have 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays and are due in select markets from 7 October.

Samsung has announced the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and Galaxy Tab S12+, two Android tablets using MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 processor. The Ultra has a 14.6-inch display and measures 5.1mm thick; the S12+ has a 12.6-inch display. Both run Android 17 with One UI 9 and are scheduled to go on sale in select markets from 7 October.

Two sizes, shared display and performance features

Both tablets use 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays, with a stated peak brightness of 1,600 nits and High Brightness Mode brightness of 1,000 nits. The Ultra’s resolution is 2960 × 1848, while the S12+ is 2800 × 1752. Samsung says its Vision Booster adjusts brightness in real time according to surrounding light.

Samsung describes the Dimensity 9500 as a 3nm processor. Compared with the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra, the S12 Ultra is rated for up to 61% faster NPU processing, 19% faster CPU performance and 17% improved GPU power. These are Samsung’s comparison figures; the company notes that actual performance depends on usage conditions and software. A redesigned 3D Vapor Chamber is intended to dissipate heat more efficiently than the cooling systems in the respective previous-generation models.

The Ultra has an 11,600mAh battery and weighs 692g for Wi-Fi or 695g for 5G. The S12+ has a 10,600mAh battery and weighs 553g or 555g, respectively. Samsung rates video playback at up to 23 hours for the Ultra and 21 hours for the S12+. Both support 45W wired charging, which Samsung says can take a battery from 0% to 100% in about 95 minutes; the 45W adapter is sold separately. The company’s playback estimates come from controlled testing and will vary with settings and use.

Samsung says both models have IP68 water- and dust-resistance ratings. Each includes an S Pen, though the pen does not support Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). The tablets also support up to seven OS upgrades and security updates, with timing varying by model and market.

Multitasking, AI features and availability

The tablets can show up to three apps at once in Multi Window. Samsung’s examples include taking notes while watching a lecture and consulting an AI assistant. Note Assist can summarise notes, while Samsung Browser can summarise information across open webpages. Some AI functions require a Samsung Account or network connection, and availability can vary by region and software version.

Samsung also says Photoshop will come preloaded on the series, describing this as a first for Android tablets, with eligible buyers offered four months of access to its mobile plan. The announcement lists other app trials and offers, including six months of Google AI Pro; terms and availability vary by market. The Pro Keyboard and Book Cover Keyboard Slim are optional accessories sold separately.

The Galaxy Tab S12 series is scheduled to become available from 7 October in select markets, in Gray and Silver. Samsung says timing and model availability may vary by market, carrier and configuration. The announcement does not give a price in the supplied material.
