Tata Motors announced on 15 September 2025 that more than 25,000 public charging stations had been installed and made accessible to customers of its electric small commercial vehicles (SCVs) across more than 150 Indian cities. The company also signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with 13 charging-point operators to add 25,000 more public chargers over the following 12 months.

The announcement concerns the infrastructure around Tata Motors’ electric cargo vehicles, rather than a new vehicle launch. It links public charging access with Fleet Edge, the company’s connected-vehicle platform, and with a network of more than 200 dedicated EV support centres that Tata Motors says it has established across India.

What Tata Motors announced

The company said more than 25,000 public charging stations are now available to its electric SCV customers in over 150 cities. It identified Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad among the locations covered.

Tata Motors described the stations as being positioned across key logistics hubs. However, the announcement does not provide a city-by-city breakdown, so the distribution of chargers within the wider network cannot be assessed from the available information.

Tata Motors said existing and upcoming charger locations will be integrated into Fleet Edge. According to the company, the platform will provide navigation to charging locations and information about their availability. A connected-vehicle platform can help drivers plan routes around charging stops, but the announcement does not explain how charger status is measured, updated or verified.

The charging initiative is intended to support the electric SCV lineup listed in Tata Motors’ September 2025 announcement: the Ace Pro EV, Ace EV and Ace EV 1000. The company says these vehicles are available with multiple load-deck configurations and payload options, although the release does not provide comparative figures for payload, driving range, battery capacity or charging time.

Tata Motors also reported that more than 10,000 Ace EVs had been deployed and had collectively travelled more than 6 crore kilometres.

Why charging access matters for electric cargo fleets

Electric SCVs are used for goods movement and last-mile delivery in urban and semi-urban logistics. For such vehicles, charging is an operating requirement alongside vehicle range, route length and the time available between deliveries.

Commercial vehicles need regular access to electricity during or between delivery routes. Fleet operators also need to know whether a suitable charger is available at the right location and time. Combining charger locations with navigation could therefore make public infrastructure easier to use than a network that is difficult to find or plan around.

The announcement also presents charging infrastructure, vehicle deployment, digital route information and after-sales support as parts of the same electric-fleet system. Tata Motors says it has more than 200 dedicated EV support centres in India, alongside the charging access described in the release.

That does not, by itself, establish that operators will achieve higher utilisation, lower operating costs or greater earnings. Those outcomes depend on factors such as charging reliability, queueing, energy prices, route patterns, vehicle payload, charging duration and the number of vehicles competing for each location.
