A kart designed for shared family use

The single-seat GR KART measures 1,820 millimetres long, 1,160mm wide and 670mm high. It has a 1,045mm wheelbase, weighs 83kg including engine oil but excluding gasoline, and uses a 215cc engine.

Toyota says the kart can be loaded into a Toyota Noah or Toyota Voxy minivan without disassembly. Its design also supports upright storage. An oil catch tank, a diaphragm carburetor without a float chamber and the orientation of the fuel filler opening are intended to reduce fuel or oil leakage when the kart is stored vertically. Dedicated securing fixtures and a vertical-storage cart are sold separately.

The driving position can be adjusted for people between 135cm and 185cm tall. Sliding pedals and a tilting steering wheel are each designed for one-touch adjustment, allowing children and adults to use the same kart. A weight box can hold up to 15kg of ballast for racing and includes a location for a transponder.

Engineering aimed at easier ownership

The GR KART uses a belt-drive system rather than a chain drive. Toyota says this avoids chain-oil soiling and includes an automatic tensioner, removing the need for periodic belt-tension adjustment.

Its engine has a built-in self-charging battery, so owners do not need to install or separately charge an external battery. The four-stroke engine’s newly developed diaphragm carburetor is designed to reduce the effect of fuel-level changes during cornering. A primer pump draws fuel into the carburetor before starting, simplifying preparation before driving.

The kart also includes components intended to support long-term use, including a rust-resistant stainless-steel rear axle shaft and internal metal fuel lines in the fuel tank. Safety-related features include a rear bumper shaped to reduce the chance of another kart riding onto a rear tyre during a collision, rear-hub stopper pins, and a seat designed to protect hands from a hot muffler when getting in or out.

A throttle-cable mounting method is intended to reduce the risk of the throttle sticking in the open position. These features reflect Toyota’s stated aim of making the kart easier for beginners to use and maintain, rather than adding performance specifications for a professional racing machine.

Price, availability and operating limits

The GR KART is currently sold through 36 participating kart tracks and seven GR Garage locations in Japan, with additional sales locations planned. Toyota says accessories and spare parts will be available through a dedicated Rakuten Ichiba online store.

The GR app provides instructional material, vehicle information and related services. Users can register for a driver’s passport through the app, which serves as proof of eligibility for sports driving with a GR KART at participating tracks. Each track must confirm whether it accepts the passport. A separate dedicated licence is required to take part in GR KART races at the SL Kart Meeting.

The kart is not covered by a warranty, according to Toyota’s launch information. Its purchase price also excludes separately sold transport and storage fixtures. The launch announced Japanese sales only; the supplied information does not specify availability or pricing outside Japan.
