MRI psychosis-risk model performs weakly across four cohorts

A medRxiv preprint tested a structural MRI model for psychosis risk across four independent clinical high-risk cohorts. Its discrimination was weak, predicted risks transferred poorly, and exploratory analyses found variation by negative-symptom severity.

COMET captures activity from over 15,000 cortical neurons in moving mice

A bioRxiv preprint describes COMET, a 3.75-g head-mounted imaging system that recorded more than 15,000 cortical neurons in freely moving mice during five-minute sessions. The researchers used it to examine brain activity during social interaction and fear conditioning.

Brain charts map sex-specific structural trajectories from before birth to age 100

A bioRxiv preprint reports sex-specific reference charts for 296 structural brain measures, built from imaging data from 59,915 healthy people aged from 266 days after conception to 100 years. The authors found differences in when measures reached peak milestones and reported improved prediction compared with charts that pooled sexes.

Menopause Therapy’s Brain Associations Vary by Formulation and APOE ε4

A medRxiv preprint analysing 8,741 female participants older than 70 reports that associations between menopause hormone therapy, cognition and brain structure differed by treatment formulation and APOE ε4 status. Among APOE ε4 carriers, estradiol-based therapy was linked to more favourable cognitive and imaging measures than conjugated equine estrogens.
