A taxonomic study in Phytotaxa recognises five species in the giant waterlily genus Victoria, including V. colombiana in Colombia’s upper Orinoco and V. mattogrossensis in the Pantanal. The researchers compared plant morphology and mapped populations against South American river drainage patterns.
