Preprint finds lab-evolved resistance mutations align with in vivo data

A bioRxiv preprint reports that ciprofloxacin resistance mutations selected in laboratory experiments largely matched those found in in vivo data for E. coli and P. aeruginosa. The authors say this supports using experimental evolution to help forecast resistance risks, while noting that other bacteria–drug combinations need study.

Preprint reports LysM enzyme activity against bacterial biofilms

A bioRxiv preprint reports that the bacterial enzyme LysM can kill several Gram-negative hospital pathogens and disrupt their biofilms, particularly when combined with EDTA. Tests included laboratory experiments and a human airway organoid model, not treatment in patients.

Preprint traces drug-resistant E. coli ST361 spread and mouse virulence

A bioRxiv preprint analysing 20,331 E. coli genomes identifies ST361 as an emerging carbapenem-resistant clone associated with urinary tract infection. The researchers also link its common surface-polysaccharide type to virulence in mouse infection models.
