Parkinson’s Genetics Study Identifies Five Age-at-Onset Signals

A medRxiv preprint reports five genetic loci associated with age at Parkinson’s disease onset in a meta-analysis of 50,859 people with the disease. The findings include signals near SNCA, GBA1 and HIP1R, while the APOE association may reflect effects on longevity.

Trial eligibility can make genetic scores appear to predict treatment response

A medRxiv preprint reports that trial eligibility criteria can create apparent differences in lipid-lowering treatment response by polygenic risk score, even when the true genetic interaction is set to zero. Its cohort analyses found little evidence that coronary artery disease risk scores modified statin effects.
