Human centromeres show a distinct response to mechanical force

A bioRxiv preprint reports that centromeres in isolated human metaphase chromosomes have a distinct force response, including softening at some force levels. The researchers also found that topoisomerase IIα is recruited to centromeric regions under significant tension.

ModDNA toolkit builds programmable DNA up to 100 kb

A bioRxiv preprint describes ModDNA, a sequence-design and cloning toolkit for building custom DNA molecules up to 100 kilobases. The researchers used the constructs in single-molecule visualisation assays, including an assay of DNA loop extrusion by human condensin I.
