Researchers report programmable spins built into DNA

A Technical University of Munich preprint describes synthetic DNA strands carrying flavin chromophores that generate spin-correlated radical pairs. The system can be manipulated with radiofrequency fields and read using optically detected magnetic resonance, with DNA sequence and structure controlling its response.

Reinforcement Learning Finds New Cardiac Reentry Mechanisms

A bioRxiv preprint reports that reinforcement learning identified previously unreported ways to initiate reentry in models of excitable tissue. Learned stimulation patterns produced unidirectional propagation in cardiac monolayers, while whole-heart experiments offered preliminary evidence that they can influence early wave propagation.
